A Revolutionary Weekend at Quaker Meadows Plantation

Historic Burke Foundation celebrates the 231st Anniversary of the Overmountain Men's march through Burke County to the Battle of Kings Mountain.
Friday, September 30th
- Performance by the Overmountain Victory Trail Association re-enactors with story-telling and troop mustering (6:00). Bring a picnic dinner and eat on the grounds of Quaker Meadows.
- Tours of the McDowell House
Saturday, October 1st from 10:00-5:00PM
Come experience a revolutionary day full of activities at Quaker Meadows, where the
Overmountain Men gathered their forces 231 years ago!
- 18th century crafts including flint knapping, weaving, gun making, wood working, broom making, basket making and more
- Story tellers telling tales of the real heroes and heroines of Burke County
- Colonial Dancing
- Children's activities - colonial crafts and games, children's muster, pottery making
- Tours of the historic McDowell House, oldest brick structure in Burke County
- Food and drink available for purchase throughout the day
- Period music

Directions to Quaker Meadows & McDowell House from I-40:
Take Exit 105 to Morganton. Turn right onto Sterling Street, which becomes Green Street.
Travel 4.5 miles. Turn right on St. Mary's Church Road. Travel 1/10 of a mile and the
McDowell House will be on the left (119 St. Mary's Church Road).

Our Doors of Historic Burke poster celebrates the historic buildings throughout Burke county with photos of 30 intriguing doors in our county. The unique character of each door on this poster makes it an interesting item to hang in your home or give as a gift!
The posters are available at the Historic Burke County Courthouse for $15 with all proceeds supporting the Historic Burke Foundation.

Historic Burke Foundation is a non-profit organization chartered in 1982. The Foundation’s purpose is to preserve and restore historic buildings and sites in Burke County and to provide technical assistance to others engaged in preservation. Our goals are to encourage awareness of our heritage and to enhance the character and beauty of our community.
Our office is located in the Old Burke County Courthouse that also houses our Heritage Museum. Historic Burke Foundation owns the following historic properties: the McDowell House, Quaker Meadows Cemetery and Belvidere Cemetery.
